Recently on my way back from Canada, I had a stop over in Singapore and I extended it for a full day so that I could spend some time with my sister, who is in Singapore.

We both had a good time in the National Orchid Garden, Singapore, clicking snaps, doing recordings, posing with the colorful orchids. And we were discussing that how leisurely we are able to enjoy each and every varierty of Orchid as the male brigade was not there.

Here are some beautiful orchid photos. This garden is worth a visit for people, who are travelling to Singapore. I remember how I had gone crazy during my visit to Kew Gardens, Surrey. It was such a vast botanical garden with so many varieties of trees and flowers.
I liked the white orchid variety a lot. They have named it "Princess Diana" in their "named after Celebrities section". White looks so pure and you get a feeling of peace.

There are some hybrid varieties as well. I will post some more photos when I get time.
I have got so much work to do and here I am busy blogging about flowers :) Well I simply love them.I have plan of opening a big nursery when I retire. Now when I am going to retire, that is a very BIG question.
So till my next post, take care.

Passiflora - Passion Fruit

Yesterday I saw one flower of passion fruit and it was good to see the flower in real. I had seen the flower in photos on the internt but never in my real life. Here is the image of the flower taken.

10th August 2006 :
I read on the internet that the passion flowers needs to be pollinated to bear the fruit. And the violet variety like this one can be self pollinated. For other types they need to be pollinated from other vines.

11th August 2006:
Here is the photo taken, just one day after the pollination. So after one week, it should bear the passion fruit. I am waiting for it. Will post the photos.

Brahma Kamal - a type of lotus which blooms at night

It's called Brahma Kamal in India and is rated as amongst the more exotic flowers to be found in human homes. It's a type of cactus and its main feature is that it produces a flower that opens only at night and lasts only for a few hours, always dying before dawn. Some people give parties to celebrate the event, usually timed for mid-summer and no-one who has seen one can forget it because it looks like a blessing in the shape of a beautiful white-petalled flower.

These are the lovely snaps taken when the flower bloomed in my home recently.
